The shopping mall, where the hotel is situated, received the Prix D'Excellence prize in 2001 from the International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI). The specialty of Hilton Budapest WestEnd Hotel is that it is not only located centrally (not super centrally but quite in the center), but it is also actually within the WestEnd City Center shopping mall, one of the largest of its kind in Hungary (which, as one of the guest reviewers remarks, "seems like it was transported from Queens, NY"). There is a separate door for hotel guests in the mall though, so you don't need to picture yourself elbowing your way through the shopping crowds. Hilton Budapest WestEnd Hotel is about a 30 minute drive from Budapest Ferihegy International Airport (approx. 15.5 miles / 25 km). While you can get a taxi from the airport, there is also a train available (about 25 minute from Ferihegy Terminal 1 to a major railway station (Nyugati Palyaudavar)- basically just next to the hotel and the shopping center). Trams 4 and 6 will take you through Grand Boulevard, and the picturesque Andrassy ut is only 1 stop. Or you can use the blue metro line to get to the main shopping street (Vaci utca) in 5 minutes, the Central Market Hall (about 15-20 min), the central metro transfer point (Deak ter), etc. The Hungarian Parliament, the Gresham Palace, the River Danube are all within walking distance. The simplest way to get to the Royal Palace, the Matthias Church and the Castle District on the Castle Hill in general is to take the tram (4 or 6) and get off at the last stop, Moszkva ter (approx. 15-25 min).
Despite the fact that Hilton Budapest WestEnd Hotel is in a busy central location next to the glass and metal wonder of the Eiffel's firm designed Western Railway Station, as Fodor's travel guide writes "the public spaces and guest rooms are hushed and peaceful owing to exceptional sound-proofing and structural planning. Facilities and amenities are top-notch, worthy of any international-standard business hotel. The aubergine and teal room decor is at once funky and understated." There are 230 rooms in the hotel, which mainly targets business luxury travellers. The guest rooms are contemporary, understated in their design whether you choose the king, queen, twin bedded rooms or the more spacious suites. Sizes of the standard rooms range from 237 square feet/ 22m2 to 323 square feet/ 30m2, and suites are either 41m2/441sq.ft or 52m2/560sq.ft. Some of the room amenities: cable TV and pay per view TV, high speed internet (surcharge), tea and coffee maker, mini bar, safe, air conditioning, non-allergic feather pillows, iron and board. The marble bathroom has a separate walk-in shower and a bathtub, a hairdryer and a telephone (in high-end rooms slippers and bathrobes too). The business accent of the hotel is shown by its ergonomic work design: large desks, ergonomic chairs, foot rests help you to be on business in Budapest with peace of mind. Some rooms have (mall terrace) garden or city views, others overlook the train station. Executive rooms and suites have free access to the Executive Lounge offering free breakfast and refreshments.
There is no spa or pool in Hilton Budapest WestEnd. However, the luxury business hotel has saunas, massage treatments, and a well-equipped fitness room with a nice view over the busy city (gym facilities: cardiovascular and resistance equipment). You will find showers, fresh fruit and fluffy towels in the single-sex changing rooms.
Restaurant Arrabona serves a menu of light, healthy Mediterranean cuisine and Hungarian specialties. Zita Cafe is a stylish restaurant and cafe decked out with sofas, leather chairs and chandeliers. Sip cocktails on the summer terrace, watch big-screen sports or enjoy illy coffee, sandwiches, snacks, grills, tapas and local specialties at the Hilton Budapest WestEnd hotel. Bar Kando offers a broad selection of exciting cocktails and old favorites. Room Service is available 24 hrs a day. Kosher food available on request.
Although as Frommer's review has already pointed out that the hotel is primarily a business destination, there are several amenities and services for guests staying here with their families: babysitting service, kids' activities, children's menu, cribs, high chairs, a playground will help you to feel comfortable. Margaret Island is just a few tram stops from the hotel if you wish to stay in the open air (bikes, carts for rental, mini zoo, fountains, riuns, bars, cafes, race swimming pool, etc.)
Small pets are allowed (up to 10 lbs/ 4.5 kg) for an extra charge.
Kosher food is available upon request. Hilton Budapest WestEnd Hotel has special online planners to help your group reservations, wedding gala plannings etc.: guest list manager, personalized group webpage help you along to keep track of organizing things. There is a 15-minute free wifi access in the WestEnd shopping mall. You can rent bikes right next to the entrance of the hotel, and have a nice bike tour to Margaret Island (Margitsziget), the promenade of the River Danube, (even up to Buda Hill if you are in a good form) etc.
TripAdvisor reviews about Hilton Budapest WestEnd Hotel
"I spent 2 nights at the Hilton WestEnd on a company vacation. This hotel is very conveniently located in Budapest city center, near a local subway station and a bus stop. A huge shopping center is adjoined to the hotel. Hotel guests enjoy a separate entrance to the shopping mall through a door in the hotel lobby. The prices are not expensive and you can find great finds in most of the stores. Our room was very nice is size, modernly furnished and with a vast bathroom containing a shower and a bath. The hotel breakfast buffet did not have a very big selection of foods, but what was available was fresh and delicious."
"i'm in the ad industry so i come to budapest a lot since it is one of the cheapest cities in the world to shoot at (along with bucharest). the city is nice and relaxed and has some great hotels to stay at, like the four seasons, but the Hilton westend is NOT one of them. Hilton westend is a practical place, and is not designed to give its guests any kind of special experiance. the room is clean. breakfast is o.k and the service is robot-like. it is ok when you come for a couple of nights to work and just need that, but if you come to budapest on vacation or soecial event - the hilton westend will add nothing to the experiance. you will feel like the most ordinery people in a very ordinery hotel."
"Went to budapest from 6-8 july with four friends and stayed at the hilton. Hotel was 25 minutes from the airport and checked in at 1pm, the hotel is on the main road next to a big shopping mall with a door in the hotel to enter into the mall. The hotel is modern and was busy when we arrived. We had a room with twin beds and it was spacious, the bath was a nice size, with a walk in shower and had le source products which i liked. Robes and slippers were provided and there was plenty of storage room. The turn down service was available at your request as they did not want to disturb the guests. I found the staff helpful with advice on things to do in budapest, and also when we wanted book restaurants, i left my adaptor at home and was supplied with one from the hotel. Also rang housekeeping to give me a extra duvet as i found 1 too light, and was given one in 10 minutes, The rooms were clean and the beds were good. The hotel is in a good location and you can use the cafes and restaurants in the mall and you can walk 2 minutes down the road to get a taxi near the station, the hotel is near to a lot of places to visit and to catch the tour bus nearby. We walked from the hotel to andrassy av which was 15 minutes walk and to nearby liszt ferenc square where there are loads of cafes and restaurants, nice for lunch and dinner and good place to walk around. I enjoyed my stay here even though we were out for most of the day and stayed for a short visit, and would stay here again and recommend it to anyone who wants a good location and a great hotel."
"I was really disappointed with this hotel. I had just came from a wonderful stay at the Le Meridien @ Wien. The staff at this Hilton was really unpleasant, unwillingfull and unhelpful. And that didnt occur with one or another person there but with all its staff. I do not recommend this hotel."
"This hotel is very nice, modern and clean. If you are wanting to see all of Budapest, the hotel is located within close proximity to all sights, mainly Margaret Island and the Parliament district. Some of the negatives were a lack of pool/hot tub, although Budapest has many of those to offer. A hint to travellers, don't go for the American Breakfast Buffet and charge it to you room, it will cost you 27 Euro Each!!!! This hotel caters to the business crowd, but we found it comfortable for an extended stay. It is somewhat quiet, great room service, excellent bathrooms and a nice view. I would recommend this hotel."
"My partner, some friends and I stayed at the Hilton - West End over the Easter weekend The rooms were spotless, beautiful, and modern. The staff were very helpful especially for booking tours and taxis. All spoke very good English as well as Hungarian and German. The only downside was that it's about a 25 minute walk or so to the Parliament buildings and about 30-35 minute walk to the Castle District. The hotel restuarants/bar definitely lacked atmosphere as there was none. I think this hotel is definitely more of a business hotel so might have more "atmosphere" throughout the week? If you want to be somewhere very central to the sights I'd maybe check out the Hilton-Castle District location instead of the West End. Overall a great stay"
"I stayed in this hotel on 16-19 March 2007 with my wife - we had a short break in Budapest. The hotel is good located (close to the center, to Danube). It was clean, cosy, inexpensive. We lived on the executive floor, the room was nice but a little bit small compared to other Hiltons. Executive lounge was small, but also cosy with very friendly staff. The whole staff was very attentive. Breakfast was average and fitness facilities were disappointing - small, not very clean and some devices were broken. The sauna was also very small. But if I visit Budapest onece again, I will definitely stay at this hotel."
"Wow, What a hotel!! A brand new development within a short walking distance to the Danube and tourist attractions. The hotel is very modern and well designed, the bedrooms are spacious, especially the bathrooms, they have a walk in shower as well as bath tub. Food was also fantastic. The hotel is connected to the largest shopping mall in Eastern Europe. All the staff were extremely helpful. I would definetely recommend this hotel for any stay in Budapest. Also for a little extra the view from the executive lounge are amazing!"
"What a great place to stay and the service is next to none. I have done plenty of travelling in my time and have stayed at many hotels. Hilton Budapest WestEnd has honestly been my most enjoyable hotel. The service was 100% at all times. From the moment we arrived until we departed we were treated extremely well and all staff were happy and helpful at all times. Food was very impreessive and I would recommend this hotel to anybody. Great experience."
"A so so hotel with indifferent staff and incredibly expensive bar and restaurant which are dead and characterless, apart from suits on business. Rooms comfortable and large, location good, but I would recommend somewhere with more character and less cold efficiency."
"Essentially a stylish, reliable & efficient new hotel. Five stars? Absolutely not, but does the job fine. There are one or two disappointments but these are offset by the comparatively low room rates. Certainly I have stayed in far worse Hiltons for far more money. Good: most of it, general facilities, exec lounge nice, gym OK. Nice comfy chair in your room. Bathrooms excellent, shower + bath on exec (4th) floor. Opening window, hurrah, fresh air. Bad: 1. The restaurant, don't go. Food appalling. Lunchtime buffet was fine but in the evening, yack. Terrible service and though deserted 5 out of 7 wine choices were not available 2. The bar. Smoky, grotty, boring, brightly lit. So much stylish decor elsewhere, yet not where you need it most. A failure at the drawing board. I have noticed this in other locations, Hilton doesn't seem to care about their bars. 3. Strange bedding. Two meagre individual duvets, laid side by side on a double bed. No overlap and not wide enough to overhang the bed. Sleeping involves lining up nice and straight, like a mummy. Don't move, or your toes will peep out the side. By arranging both duvets at a radical angle one could gain satisfactory coverage. Heaven knows what you'd do if there were actually 2 of you staying. All easily fixed. Buy some duvets, get a new chef and refurb the bar. Avoid Minibar, just pinch some drinks from exec lounge. Concierge recommends Rezkaka for dinner - trust him it's a real treat."
"We - 6 friends - stayed here at 3 twin bed rooms for a very short city trip. As Hilton GoldVIP 4 of us stayed at 2 decent twin bed rooms at the Executive Level, with the Executive Lounge open till 11pm. Even tough we booked non-smoking rooms we were put in smoking rooms which wasn't too bad. The 3rd regular room had the same amenities as those on the Exec. Level, just no access to it. The hotel is located at the largest shopping mall in Europe with direct access, next to the West End train station. Hotel is 30mins. away from the airport, metro station at the train station. Breakfast was ok, warm and cold buffet. Room itself was ok for a people travelling without large suitcase. We had to look for the inroom safe, which was located underneath the desk. Bathroom has separate shower and bathtube, shower head was a bit broken, my bath tower had black stains. Service staff, starting from check in, concierge and breakfast room were helpful and nice. Helpful concierge."
"Just back from a 2 night stay at the Hilton West End. Hilton seems to have some great deals on this hotel so I opted out of going back to the K & K. Check-in was nice and easy and they gave me an upgrade to the 4th (executive) floor on account of my Hilton gold card. It gives you access to the exec lounge all day (closes 2330) and for breakfast. The lounge is spacious and offers all types of alcoholic/Non-alcoholic drinks. Breakfast was simple - sausages/eggs/bacon and the continental option. I stayed here not long after it opened and had a great time although it was very expensive. Since then, they seem to have gone downhill recently - The joint efforts of the hotel staff and my company`s IT manager couldn`t get me connected to the internet in the room. My lap top seems to work everywhere else :) The room itself was very nice and clean, with steam iron/ironing board, TV and desk - beware of the mini bar though - it must be the most expensive I`ve ever seen! Go into the Exec lounge and take some drinks back to your room - there`s a small space in the fridge for your own personal use. The staff were really friendly, but major downside for me was the condition of the tiles in the shower - take a look a my pic......mould city!"
"We made it to the hotel after waiting for some time at the airport to locate our luggage - unfotunately it didn't arrive until 24 hours later! The hotel was clean and the room was a good size. The proximety to the shopping centre was handy - particularly as we needed to buy clothes & stuff due to the lack of luggage. The location of the hotel with respect to the sights was not the best, but if you don't mind the walk it's not a problem. Budapest was great - we would certainly go back to the city, but would aim to stay in a more central location."
"Nice, spacious rooms. Extremely friendly and helpful staff - they helped us locate and recover our lost luggage, gave us dinner recommendations, and allowed us to use the internet for free. Excellent location next to the train station (Nyugati) and metro hubs. The back door of the lobby leads to WestEnd City Center, Central Europe's largest shopping mall. One draw back - breakfast was not included in the room price. But here's a tip: the hotel is about a block from an underground metro hub with several very inexpensive cafe and pastry bars."
"Check in was quick and efficient. Hotel room was clean and comfortable. Shower was fantastic. TV was tiny. Beds were nice for a twin room - for once it was two separate beds instead of a double split into two singles. But is this a 3* or 5* hotel? This site says 3* but booking online it claims to be a 5* - well the company who sold me the room certainly did. Mini-bar and room service food were very expensive. Breakfast was not included with room. Facilities seemed to be pretty good, although I didn't get much of a chance to use them. This hotel is nice, but I'd have rathered try out the Hilton in the Castle District across the river. If it's a 3* hotel, it's a good one, but way overpriced. If it's a 5* hotel, it's not a 5* by UK standards. It doesn't seem any better than the 3* Hilton in my local area (and that's in Kensington in London and is cheaper than this one!) I don't think they have any regulations over stars in Central/Eastern Europe, most places I stayed seemed to make it up. Overall - ok place to stay if your company is paying for it. If it's out of your own pocket and you are trying to treat yourself to 5* luxury, you might be disappointed. I would have expected more for my money in a country with a much lower average salary than in the UK."
"Short: It was a great stay. The location of the hotel is very good, next to the Western Train station (which should be connected to the Airport as of this winter!!!), easy access to all parts of town via tram, metro, bus and foot. Simply love the new, fresh design, especially having stayed in a few other properties in town (i.e Marriott, Interconti or Hilton in the castle). Staff are great: friendly, young and nothing was too much. The concierge helped me around the city and the service in their Zita Cafe was fabulous! Try the Greek salad - it's amazing."
"This really a semi-review, as we stayed in the Hilton Bubapest only for a few hours! We were flying from Greece to Croatia for a wedding and had an 8-hour (!!) stopover in Budapest, so we decided to book into the Budapest West End Hilton for a few hours in order to get some sleep and freshen up. We had 2 days of partying ahead of us so we needed the rest! The hotel is approx. 45 minuted from the airport, right in the center of Budapest. Unfortunatey it is not on the river and has no views like the Intercontinental or Marriot. Checkin was flawless, and as I am a Diamond HHonors member we were upgraded to an executive room and had access to the -small but adequate- executive lounge. The room was excellent and spotless. The bathroom was also excellent, with Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries. No complaints whatsoever, I would definitely recommend this hotel for business or pleasure. Budapest is a wonderful city!"
"Just returned from a 4 night city break with my husband and 7 year old daughter. As a HiltonHonours gold member we had a room on the executive floor and access to the lounge. The room was a deluxe and was very spacious and comfortable. There was an excellent quality rollaway bed for my daughter. The housekeeping at the hotel was amongst the best I have experienced anywhere in the world. It was spotless and the room was cleaned daily with the beds changed and fresh toiletries added. There was also nightly turndown which made the return to the room at night really inviting. All of the staff were pleasant, friendly and welcoming.
The executive lounge service was excellent - particularly the breakfast which served the best scrambled eggs I've tasted for years! We had breakfast outside on the terrace in the sunshine and it was handy to stop in for drinks at any time when we got back to the hotel after our sightseeing.
The public transport is excellent and a one-day pass cost less than ｣3 for use of trams, buses and metros. My daughter loved the trams and we travelled all over the city. Had the obligatory cruise on the Danube and had bus tour as well.
Lots to do and see, the people were warm and friendly and we found it to be great value for money - particularly the restaurants and we got a rate of ｣70 per night for the deluxe room which I thought was very good especially when you consider the savings on breakfasts and drinks thorugh using the lounge. Also did some shopping for my daughter in the sales and got some superb bargains.
Would recommend Budapest for a short break and would definately highly recommend the Hilton West End."
Expedia tourist reviews about Hilton Budapest WestEnd Hotel
"Having stayed at other Hilton hotels in the world, I have to say that I was disappointed with the Hilton Budapest. As two woman guests travelling together although the hotel was centrally placed it was like being placed next to London Waterloo and did not feel safe at night. The hotel itself had no centre, so I think guests spent most of their time in their rooms or in fact out of the hotel itself. Perhaps this hotel is meant for the business guest only and not tourists. Sorry but I would not recommend this hotel again to friends or family."
"A well run, clean and usefully placed hotel, though we did not eat in it."
"Couldn't fault hotel for cleanliness or sevice but internet access was extremely expensive!"
"While it is attached to the unimpressive West End City Center mall (which seems like it was transported from Queens, NY), the Hilton can't be beat. Rooms are stylish, new, and clean and they have great A/C (a lifesaver in the Hungarian summer!). Only downside was that it didn't include breakfast (and it was about $30 USD to have it via room service or in the restaurant). But the fitness center was nicer than most and came equipped with a rooftop balcony and spectacular view."
"We have just come back from a four day visit to this fabulous city. Hotel was fantastic though we were upset that we were not informed of the cost of breakfast - although very nice, you get so much more for your money at any of the bars/restaurants on the way into the city centre."
"Upon choosing this hotel, the Hilton name already gave an anticipated expectation of high quality and it was definitly met. The staff were all fluent in english and extremly helpful and polite. Since we stayed here for 6 nights our faces became recognisable and we tipped generously due to the high service. This hotel is in a prime location and the mall next door is definitly as big as it is made out to be. It is within easy walkin distance to tourist attractions such as parliament. i recommend using taxis from the hilton or a registered number as alot of unlicensed drivers will offer you a fare from the airport and whilst we was lucky that time, the experience was scary enough to make us use only hitlon taxi's wheneva we needed to. I recommend a trip to the zoo as it is very enjoyable and excellant chance for souviners!"
"very good location for a short stay in Budapest. Literally everything within walking distance - if not maxmimum 10 minute taxi ride. Very friendly staff and impressed with cleaniness of hotel. Would recommedn and would stay again!!!"
"All our requests - quiet room, no feather pillows etc were carried out ahead of our checking in. Very satisfied with service. However food was a little disappointing, especially in main restaurant. Breakfast was going to be a sizeable extra per person but in Zita Cafe on ground floor we had express breakfast - a real bargain. Hotel a little out of town - Westend - but good transport links"
"Excellent distance from all the attractions and situated next to the biggest shopping mall in central Europe."
"Excellent staff at reception. Most helpful!!"
"I thought the location was great and the staff were excellent. They helped out in any way possible."
"Stayed in this lovely hotel whilst in Budapest on a short break. The staff were friendly and most helpful. All receptionists, bar staff and room attendants always had a smile for you and this created a relaxed atmosphere. The rooms were cleaned every morning with fresh towels replaced if necessary. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going on either a business or pleasure trip to Budapest."
"The hotel is situated near a vast amount of transport links, and is of a high standard. The quality is what you would expect of a hilton, but it also has some nice touches. The bathrooms are enoromous, and have a bath and separate shower. The hotel also has a fitness suite overlooking the city - fabulous at sunset. Worth a visit for the view alone."
"A recently built Hilton, this hotel provides everything you would expect from a Hilton. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the rooms are roomy, comfortable and clean. The meals are good, but local restaurants are cheaper. The hotel is excellently located, on the whole a very good experience."
"Generous room sizes include bath and separate shower, while its downtown location within one of Europe's biggest shopping centres ensures that the Hilton WestEnd is a great base for business and leisure travellers alike. The property also offers sizeable discounts for weekend stays, providing you're prepared to book well in advance. Our only gripe is Nyugati station itself (and the underpass leading to the WestEnd Centre) which is grimy and in dire need of attention. Of course, while that's no fault of the Hilton, guests will invariably notice this part of the station if they plan to use the Metro."
